Never before has the gap between my expectations and the actual impact of a film been so wide. The possibilities were so great when they cast two of the best actors of our time – and even they couldn’t bring soul to the film.
The writing and soundtrack were completely forgettable, despite Pugh and Garfield doing a great job with what they had. The back-and-forth timeline provided an incomplete emotional journey as there was no build-up or stakes to invest in.
I had such high hopes and was counting the days for this film, and when I left the screening I was very disappointed.

While Skeleton Crew is aimed at kids to attract the next generation of Star Wars fans, it surprisingly appeals to an older audience as well. In this Star Wars series, four children discover a spaceship buried in the forest on Attin, a peaceful and prosperous planet hidden in a galaxy full of pirates, greed and chaos.
The children dream of adventures – at least some – accidentally activate a ship and find themselves lost on the other side of the galaxy. But because the children lived in the shelter, they often got into trouble. Although it’s clearly Star Wars, Skeleton Crew feels like an 80s kids’ adventure movie — think The Goonies — but set in space. For longtime fans, it’s full of nostalgia, from the equipment and spaceships to the alien creatures, all reminiscent of the original trilogy. Die-hard fans will also love the many Easter eggs scattered throughout the film that bring back fond memories of the franchise’s early days.
I especially appreciated seeing younger versions of the various alien species we’ve seen from previous films. It makes the galaxy feel more connected, showing that some of the alien races are a permanent presence rather than a one-off. There are also some fun cameos, such as a brief look at a boy who looks like a young Kylo Ren. These little details keep you on edge and wanting to see more Jude Law, the biggest star of the cast, doesn’t appear until the end of the second episode, so it’s hard to judge the overall quality of the acting at first. The two main kids stand out and remind me of their performances in classics like The Goonies and Stand By Me.
One of the four children is an inhuman alien, making their acting difficult to judge, and another wears a cybernetic visor that obscures most facial expressions, reminiscent of Star Trek’s Geordi La Forge. The production quality is top notch and Disney’s budget is clearly visible. The special effects are flawless, so there is nothing to criticize. However, the episodes are quite short, and the long credits – more than five minutes – seem excessive. With only eight episodes into the season, I’m concerned that the plot may not move forward unless the pace picks up significantly.

Because of that, it's both not enough -leaves you hanging- and is stretched too thin.The casting and production design are terrific, but it's like the original Twin Peaks: once the "big crime" is solved, the story's over.
